JP Morgan Demands Fingerprint or Eye Scans for Corporate HQ Entry

The banking leader has told personnel moving into its state-of-the-art main office in Manhattan that they are required to provide their physical characteristics to gain entry the multibillion-dollar building.

Move from Discretionary to Compulsory

The investment bank had previously envisioned for the enrollment of physical identifiers at its Manhattan skyscraper to be discretionary.

Nevertheless, staff of the US's largest bank who have commenced employment at the main office since last month have obtained electronic messages stating that biometric entry was now "mandatory".

The Technology Behind Entry

Biometric access demands staff to scan their eye patterns to gain access security gates in the lobby in place of using their ID badges.

Building Specifications and Capacity

The bank's headquarters, which allegedly was built for three billion dollars to develop, will in time function as a home for ten thousand staff members once it is completely filled before year-end.

Protection Reasoning

JP Morgan declined to comment but it is believed that the employment of physical identifiers for access is designed to make the premises better protected.

Exemption Provisions

There are exceptions for some employees who will still be able to use a ID card for access, although the requirements for who will utilize more standard badge entry remains unclear.

Supporting Mobile Applications

Complementing the implementation of biometric readers, the bank has also released the "JPMC Work" mobile app, which functions as a electronic pass and hub for staff resources.

The app permits users to coordinate guest registration, explore interior guides of the premises and schedule meals from the building's nineteen restaurant options.

Industry-Wide Trends

The implementation of enhanced security measures comes as business organizations, especially those with substantial activities in NYC, look to increase security following the shooting of the chief executive of one of the US's largest health insurers in recent months.

The executive, the boss of UnitedHealthcare, was the victim of the attack not far from the bank's location.

Additional Office Considerations

It is not known if the banking institution plans to introduce physical identifier entry for personnel at its branches in other major financial centres, such as the British financial district.

Employee Tracking Developments

The move comes during controversy over the employment of digital tools to observe staff by their companies, including observing workplace presence.

Previously, all the bank's employees on mixed remote-office plans were instructed they have to report to the office full-time.

Executive Perspective

The organization's head, Jamie Dimon, has referred to the bank's recently opened tower as a "impressive representation" of the organization.

The banker, one of the world's most powerful bankers, lately cautioned that the probability of the American markets crashing was far greater than many financiers thought.
