New England Equal Best Winning Streak Since Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five touchdowns during the current campaign
The New England Patriots equaled their best victory streak from the Brady era as they overcame division rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three TDs as the New England squad claimed an eighth straight win for the first time since legendary quarterback Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in 2019
Quarterback Drake Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
The triumph increases the Patriots advantage at the top of the AFC East as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the New York at the foot after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had taken the lead at Foxborough with QB Fields rushing for a short rushing score to finish the New York's opening drive
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as Henderson ran in two seven-yard touchdowns before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third period to make it 21 to 7
"It was a crucial moment for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of the rookie. "He aims to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to close the gap for the Jets but Andy Borregales kicked a two kicks in the final period as the home side sealed the victory
