Flight operations have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

Every arrival and departure were stopped due to an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

That said, ongoing issues are anticipated to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the current status on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers continue to be advised to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as knock-on effects are worked through.
