President Trump Cancels Plans to Send National Agents to Northern California

The US leader has called off preparations for a deployment of national agents to the Bay region that had triggered broad criticism from state officials and sent demonstrators flooding into the public areas.

Regional Anxiety Over Possible Government Presence

The area had been on edge after information circulated that the administration was ready to send more than 100 Customs and Border Protection and government personnel to the government installation in Alameda, as part of a major immigration enforcement operation.

However, the chief executive stated he would not move forward with a “surge” of national agents in the area after speaking with the local official, city leadership, and business executives including tech executive and Nvidia chief.

“During our discussion, the national leader informed me directly that he was calling off every proposal for a national operation in San Francisco,” Lurie commented in a statement.
